  • Q. How is a 64-bit version of Windows different from a 32-bit version of Windows?
    A. 64-bit typically refers to how a computer’s processor handles information. A 64-bit version of Windows requires a 64-bit processor. Operating systems are either 32 bit or 64 bit. Most machines come with a 32 bit operating system. Unless you are running applications that are 64 bit, there is little need to have a 64 bit operating system. [top]

    Q. What are typical 64-bit client operating systems?
    A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional X64 Edition or Windows Vista™ 64-bit editions for the various brands, e.g. 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium or 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate. [top]

    Q. Will ACT! run on a machine that uses a 64-bit processor?
    A. Yes, as long as the operating system is a 32-bit version. [top]

    Q. Can I install ACT! on a 64-bit client operating system?
    A. Currently, ACT! cannot be installed on a 64-bit client operating system. ACT! is a 32-bit application which works with 32-bit database software. Modifications to ACT! are required to support the installation and use on 64-bit operating systems. We are currently working on these changes. Continue to check this site for updated information. In the meantime, we recommend that you install a 32-bit operating system unless there are specific applications that require the use of a 64-bit operating system. [top]

    Q. Can I connect ACT! to a shared database which runs a 64-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server™?
    A. Currently, ACT! does not connect to a 64-bit version of  Microsoft SQL Server. ACT! only supports a 32-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server. We are currently working on this support. Continue to check this site for updated information. [top]

    Q. Will there be a 64-bit version of ACT!?
    A. The ACT! team is focusing on providing installation support for 32-bit ACT! on 64-bit Vista operating systems. We are currently researching the benefits of using a 64-bit version of ACT! but, currently, we do not believe there are substantial benefits to end users. [top]
